Preparing your Publisher
Publication for Pittsford Printing
How
to prepare your publication in Publisher's "Pack and Go" format before
sending to Pittsford Printing. The creates a single, compressed file
called "Packed01.puz" containg your Publisher file, embedded fonts and
linked graphics.
Step
1.
On the Tools menu, point to Commercial Printing Tools, and then click
Color Printing.
In the
Print all colors as box, click Process colors (CMYK) or Spot color(s).
B/W designs should be converted to a single spot color (black).
If you haven’t chosen a spot color or spot colors already,
click Change Spot Color, and then choose the color or colors you want,
or click Black and white only.
Click
OK.
Step
2.
On the File
menu, point to Pack and Go, and then click Take to a Commercial
Printing Service.
The Pack and Go Wizard takes you through each step of the packing
process. Click Next to move to the next step.
If you
haven’t saved your publication already, the wizard will ask
you to save it.
If
you're taking your publication on disk to the printing service, when
the wizard asks you to choose a location for saving your file, click A.
-Or-
If
you're putting your files on an external drive, on a network, or on
your computer's hard disk, click Browse, choose the drive and folder
you want, and then click OK.
How?
Click
Next.
To
embed TrueType fonts, include linked graphics, and create links for
embedded graphics, click Next.
-Or-
Click to remove the check mark for options you don't want.
Click
Next.
Click
Finish.
If
Publisher cannot find a linked graphic while packing your publication:
Click Retry after you insert the disk or CD-ROM containing the original
graphic into the appropriate drive.
-Or-
Click
Skip to leave the current link and replace the graphic later.
-Or-
Click
Browse to locate a graphic that has been moved or to select another
graphic and link to it.
If
Publisher notifies you that you used fonts that cannot be embedded,
click OK.
Be sure to talk to your printing professional about getting any fonts
that were not embedded.
Insert
another disk if Publisher prompts you, and then click OK.
It’s a good idea to number the disks so your printing service
knows which disk to insert first when they unpack your files.
To
print composite and separation proofs of your publication, click OK.
Notes
The files are saved in the directory you chose during the packing
sequence. Publisher names and numbers your packed files and adds a .puz
extension. For example, the first file will be named Packed01.puz, the
second file will be Packed02.puz, and so on. A Readme.txt file and
Unpack.exe program also are included with your packed files. The Readme
file contains instructions for using the unpacking program to unpack
your files. Unpack.exe is the program you use to unpack your files.
If you
make changes to your publication after packing your files, be sure to
run the Pack and Go Wizard again so the changes are part of your packed
publication.

3.
